Chris Adams

Chris Adams is a new member of the Capital Connections team, having joined the team in early 2013 after working in the electric utility industry in Vermont.

A native of Rutland, Vermont, Chris was educated in Rutland Public Schools, at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and at Castleton State College. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication – Public Relations and minor in Business Administration from Castleton in 2009.

While at Castleton, Chris served as an editor of the college’s newspaper, the Castleton Spartan, and was a public relations intern at both Central Vermont Public Service and the U.S. Forest Service’s Green Mountain National Forest.

Upon his graduation, Chris was hired by CVPS where he spent three-plus years working in the utility’s Public Affairs department. During his stay at CVPS, Chris was involved with the company’s internal and external communication efforts, including press material development, information distribution planning and execution, storm and outage situation communications, media tracking and employee communication activities, among other responsibilities. He also played a key role in the company’s community relations initiatives, organizing and executing numerous highly successful food drives, blood drives, coat drives, environmental cleanups, fundraisers etc.

Chris was fortunate to be a member of the CVPS team during arguably the company’s finest years. CVPS saw its index scores on customer and stakeholder surveys - for such categories as overall opinion, providing honest and accurate information and being a good corporate citizen in the communities it serves - all increase sharply from previous years. In 2009, J.D. Power ranked CVPS second in the east among mid-sized utilities for customer satisfaction, corporate citizenship and communications, and, in 2010, CVPS was recognized by Forbes as being one of the Top 100 “Most Trustworthy” companies in the nation. CVPS was also awarded the Edison Electric Institute’s top honor - the Emergency Recovery Award - in 2010 and 2011 for its response to the “1-2 Punch Storm” and Hurricane Irene, respectively.

In 2012, Chris became a member of Green Mountain Power’s Communication and External Affairs group following GMP’s acquisition of CVPS. Chris’ role remained largely unchanged following the transition, though he became more involved with brand management and advertising activities being coordinated by GMP.

Chris’ time in the electric utility industry provided him with a solid understanding of transmission and distribution operations, renewable energy issues, environmental processes, smart grid activities, customer service standards, utility regulation, storm response, organizational communication and culture building and sound public relations practices among other topics.

In addition to his positions at CVPS and GMP, Chris served from 2010 to 2012 as a board member of the Rutland Community Cupboard.

An avid outdoorsman, enthusiastic hockey coach and member of his local fire department, Chris is excited about working to serve the various clients of Capital Connections.

Chris currently resides in Rutland and enjoys spending time with his fiancée Julia and their black lab, Bauer.
